There are a number of ways you can pay your rent:Using your rent card in the Cash Office or any Post Office - When you sign your tenancy agreement we will arrange for a rent card to be posted to you. You can use this card to pay your rent at the Cash Office in the Civic Offices or at any Post Office in the country.
PLEASE NOTE: If you pay at a Post Office it can take 3-5 working days for the money to get to your rent account. This means that, to make sure your rent payment reaches your rent account by the Monday it is due, you should pay by the Tuesday of the week before.
Note: If you are a new tenant your rent card may take up to 2 weeks to arrive - during this time you should make sure your rent is paid on time by going to the cash office or using one of the payment methods below. Pay Online https://payments.reading.gov.uk/WEBPUBLIC/newpay.asp By Direct Debit - If you have a bank account you could pay by Direct Debit. This allows us to ask your bank to transfer your rent to us direct from your account every week, two weeks or every month (depending on what you instruct us to do). When your rent changes we can ask your bank to alter the amount they give us without you having to do anything. We will give you at least two weeks notice of any change to your rent/Direct Debit payment.
By Standing Order - If you have a bank account you could arrange a standing order with your bank. You tell them how much to pay and how often (weekly, fortnightly or monthly) and they will make sure your rent gets to us. When we write to tell you that your rent is changing you will have to write to your bank to let them know the new payment to avoid getting into rent arrears.
Over the phone - You can also pay your rent over the phone if you have a debit or credit card by calling 0118 9390784 quoting your 6/7 digit account number.
Direct from your Salary - If you work for Reading Borough Council your rent can be deducted directly from your pay.
Call the Rents Team for more information on any of these these payment methods.
Your Rent StatementWe will send you a statement of your rent account four times a year so you can see what you have paid and what you owe.
